World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and damage from PvE.

If the weapon's upgrade template is %, it will gain an additional 3% of the previous attack damage every time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item increases as it reaches the item's current level. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into weapons, armor, and trinkets to give a stat bonus or extra effect while they're in use. These can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must have been at least upgraded to the blue level in order for the component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a particular kind of upgrade component that is that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to make stronger versions of the equipment using fewer Upgrade Crystals than are required to achieve the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A  boost upgrade can alter the attack or defence attributes of an armored weapon or. These upgrades can be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them from the cash shop, or by getting them from enemies while upgrading other equipment.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher tier version of an item will be dropped at the next reset. This gives players the opportunity to upgrade their equipment even when they're not sure what can be improved upon an update.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be expensive, and there is a significant chance that the item could be obsolete or even break when it fails; a unsuccessful upgrade could destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the possibility of failure. Certain upgrades also provide an additional bonus when they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs boost the power of all nodes in a radius around them as well as existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in various ways, and we recommend getting them up to level 15 whenever you can.

It is commonplace to see in the endgame that placing Glyphs is a great method to upgrade your gear. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded to level 15 and give an enormous boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced with no restrictions are the most popular. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires an Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values that it can improve a stat by. The value is displayed when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a different Glyph of the same rank or higher rank, which will boost the overall value of the Glyph.

You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain tools for gathering unlimited use, and through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs which you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

When you have the desired Glyphs You will have to attach them to your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. It could be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats depending on the Glyph.

Glyphs will boost all nodes that are connected to them, therefore it is best to place Glyphs in key spots on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids for instance should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also consider placing them near their primary damage nodes.

Leveling

The  item upgrading  system allows players to increase the performance of certain items by placing upgraded components inside them. This is also known as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with an amount, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items may be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each level of an item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or obtained from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields a number of Technology Points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned you'll be able to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When a player improves a piece of equipment, the base item is replaced by a new item. The same armor will receive an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item also comes with its own set bonus. This can be a downside, as the item can become more expensive even if you don't require it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens to do this. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a new one, which will have an initial level and a completely different set of bonuses. This can be beneficial but it shouldn't be done often as it can be a waste of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled several times to increase their value, allows the player to modify their gear. An excellent example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player is repeatedly in and out of the water (or swims like a dolphin). This can be upgraded several times, each time raising the maximum roll by a factor of 10. This item is very important in PvP. A well-rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of the non-upgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The upgrade of items allows players to increase the level of their available equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currencies to an NPC who upgrades items. The upgrade of armor set pieces will also increase the base defense of the item, and upgrading weapon equipment will increase the base damage and required strength and dexterity to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.

All items are upgradeable up to five times, except for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Every time you upgrade an object, it has a chance of failing. The rate of failure increases when you exceed the maximum number. Failures will result in the item returning to its original condition, which requires the player to purchase more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item does not upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it earned like chances to be crit attack damage, other effects (such as an increase in healing over time, or the speed of reloading). However, the player can still continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that if a weapon receives a crit chance boost it will be applied before any damage from attacks increases. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the item's definition and the value is recomputed every time an upgrade is applied.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is determined by its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a typical equipment item might have 5 upgrades, each costing 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will come with an incredibly lower cost for each upgrade.

Premium items may require different upgrades than normal equipment. For instance they might require fewer sowels, but more minerals and orons. Regardless, the player will need to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they wish to upgrade. Each equipment upgrade requires different amounts of the upgrade ingredients in addition to the expenses mentioned above.
