World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can boost the rarity of an item or mark Level and boost additional stats.
item upgrade comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.

Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrading items can be expensive depending on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is because of how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.
It can also be used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can look at the level of an item. It's an indicator of the damage and its quality. Comparing items in a vendor's stock is possible using the item level.
The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are a variety of theories on the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated by a formula that calculates the worth of the stats of an item really are. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." item upgrading of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.
Upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times, at higher costs.
Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. The affixes can be used to give items additional damage, special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by naming them.
All affixes can be being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other rerolling methods.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will contain at least one stat within the range, unless they are a unique item or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. As with the base equipment, this would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the chance to upgrade their gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more useful in the initial game run than in later ones, since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance, which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck or to boost an item's existing Luck up to 140.
Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by 5percent. These items are available in the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.
The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.
The success of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. Every item has an average success rate of 25 percent, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
